Enrichment

We know that young people need both a strong academic foundation and well-developed character strengths to succeed in education and the world beyond. That’s why we are committed to delivering an extensive enrichment programme—and through our extended school day we are able to guarantee participation for all, no matter what their starting point.

Our extended curriculum provides all pupils with guaranteed access to an exciting range of activities; from Chinese language lessons and computer programming to creative arts, sport, leadership, public speaking, debating and human rights, pupils at The Suthers School benefit from a truly enriching curriculum.

Six Pillars of Personal Development

We believe that there are six essential pillars of effective personal development. Our Personal Development Days and our unique Period 7 enrichment programme are designed to foster and develop essential character strengths by guaranteeing every pupil access to opportunities founded upon the following six ‘pillars’:

  1. Sport
  2. Creativity
  3. Performance
  4. Intellectual Challenge
  5. Social Action
  6. Life Skills

It is important to us that each pupil has the freedom to develop his or her interests and skills through the highest quality provision and that this should be provided without additional cost. Our extensive programme has been carefully planned to provide a variety of opportunities throughout the school year, some of which will lead to nationally recognised qualifications such as LAMDA, the Young Lifeguarding Award and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Our enrichment programme is another of the many ways in which we help students foster the character strengths that are essential for their own success and well-being - and another way in which we empower them to express their voice to improve the world around them.

Student Leadership

In addition to our Leadership Academy, we take pride in developing the leadership potential of our pupils. There is no doubt that as a brand new school, The Suthers School provides a unique environment for the development of student voice. Student leadership opportunities currently include:

  • Head Boy and Head Girl
  • Student Council
  • Student Ambassadors
  • House Captains
  • Curriculum Ambassadors
  • Student Librarians
  • Sports Leaders
  • Cyber Ambassadors

Enrichment activities

What enrichment activities are included?

Below you will find the enrichment timetable for your child’s year group for the summer term. There is a wide range of enrichment provision in all subject areas and hopefully something your child is keen to get involved in.

When will the enrichment provision run?

For the summer term, all enrichment provision will run from Tuesday 22nd April 2025 until Friday 18th July 2025. Enrichment will not run in the last week of the term (Week of Monday 21st July). When CAS Parent evenings are scheduled, some enrichment activities will be cancelled and this will be communicated to parents by individual staff (Y10 CAS Evening - Wednesday 7th May and Y7 CAS Evening - Wednesday 9th July).

How do I sign my child up to an enrichment activity?

All sessions, except for Boxing Club and Cooking club, will run with an ‘open door’ policy. This means there are no requirements for parents/students to sign up on MCAS before the session. This will mean students are free to turn up to any club on any day.

The exception to this rule will be Boxing Club and Cooking Club. Both clubs will require parents/students to sign up on MCAS due to there being limited spaces. The MCAS sign up opportunity will open on Monday 7th April and will close on Tuesday 22nd April.

What time will enrichment activities run?

Clubs will run from 2.45pm to 3.45pm.

Are there buses available?

The only bus available is on a Wednesday. For all other clubs, your child will need to be collected from school or make their own way home.

Please email Miss A Hall (ahall@suthersschool.co.uk) if you have any queries.
